Stafford Municipal School District, known for its unique approach of housing K-12 facilities on a singular campus, faced a pressing challenge with its expanding student population. The existing middle school structure could only house grades 7 and 8 and the District desired to have a facility that could accommodate grades 6 through 8. Realizing this need, as part of the 2017 Bond, Stafford embarked on a mission to create a state-of-the-art middle school that would stand as a beacon of modern education.
AUTOARCH’s design for Stafford Middle School took into account the limited site availability. This resulted in a three-story educational wing, which not only minimized the school’s footprint but also emerged as a distinguished landmark, towering over the municipal campus. Emphasizing community sentiments, the school’s exterior features materials resonating with the existing structures on the campus. With safety as a paramount concern, AUTOARCH engaged directly with the School Principal, Administration, and security consultants. This meticulous collaboration yielded a learning environment that ensured security and ease of monitoring without compromising the essence of education and safe collaborative environments.
Stafford Middle School is a testament to innovative architectural excellence combined with fiscal responsibility. Notably, through deliberate and innovative design decisions, the project was completed nearly $2M under the District’s allocated budget. This saving enabled the District to opt for all the proposed alternates, including the addition of nine more classrooms to the school.
