PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Background

Houston Community College and AUTOARCH, in collaboration with HDR, embarked on an ambitious project to design the New Coleman College Tower for Health Sciences. Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, this 248,800 SF establishment consists of 10 floors on a 1.25-acre site, aiming to provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for its students.

Approach

AUTOARCH’s design prioritized both functionality and aesthetics. The ground level features a two-story lobby, and a bridge on the second level connects the new tower to the existing Coleman College Building. The lower floors house the majority of the student-focused and collaborative spaces. The remaining floors consist of state-of-the-art simulation labs. In each floor’s design, we incorporated collaborative spaces and common break areas to foster a sense of community and encourage internal interaction among students and staff.

Result

The end result is a modern architectural marvel. The Coleman College for Health Sciences not only stands as a testament to cutting-edge design but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, having achieved LEED Silver Certification.
