Wharton Dual Language Academy includes the interior renovation of the existing one-story 88-year old building and the addition of a three-story new building. The completed WDLA is expanded to accommodate 900 students and includes new learning spaces, flexible labs, a new gym and a new library.
The new impressive three-story entrance acts as a landmark in the historic neighborhood. The brick and architectural language of the existing building was used as inspiration for the new addition and blends nicely with the new modern colorful design of the new addition. The expanded building allows for better distribution for all grades within the 21st Century learning environment that is technology-rich and vibrant. Most of the large trees were preserved and the sport field served as detention pond overcoming the lot limitation. The project was designed in collaboration with Munoz.
In 2020, WDLA was recognized as an Outstanding Project by Learning by Design Architectural and Interior Design Awards of Excellence in the Category of Combined-Level School.
