PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Background

With the opening of the new Stafford Middle School in 2020 (designed by AUTOARCH), the existing middle school faced an exciting reimagining, to transform this space into the county’s inaugural STEM Magnet Academy, a beacon for modern education. AUTOARCH was entrusted with this transformational task, ensuring the repurposed building would enable future growth.

Approach

The collaboration between AUTOARCH and the District’s Leadership team was profound. Together, they envisioned a school boasting state-of-the-art technology in every classroom and throughout. Key highlights include a vibrant robotics lab, equipped with high ceilings and functional overhead doors; dedicated labs for coding and medical studies; and a versatile student collaboration room. The innovative “learning stairs” concept was incorporated, fostering interactive and multi-dimensional learning. The classrooms allow for the Harkness teaching methodology through their furniture setup. The school boasts an exciting command center for students as well as an expansive and flexible student commons that radiates vibrancy.

Result

The transformation was nothing short of spectacular. What once was a middle school now stands as a colorful, vibrant, and technologically advanced STEM Magnet Academy. It not only aligns perfectly with the new brand identity but also provides students with a range of exciting and flexible spaces, propelling them into the forefront of 21st-century education.
