PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Background

Working as Associate Architects to Morris Architect, now Huitt-Zollars, AUTOARCH provided programming and architectural design services for a new facility dedicated to high-tech workforce training in the energy and advanced manufacturing sectors. With the growing demand for skilled labor in these industries, the College sought to create a state-of-the-art institute that would support hands-on education and industry-aligned certification programs.

Approach

The 70,000 SF academic and industrial training facility is designed to blend classrooms with real-world simulation environments. The building includes 28 fully equipped classroom and lab spaces with advanced AV systems, power infrastructure, and specialized utilities to support programs in engineering technology, automated manufacturing, and corporate training. Key features include two immersive simulation labs for drilling and crane operation, machine shops, a high-bay manufacturing space with a 20-ton rail crane, and a dedicated quality control lab. An administrative and faculty suite supports both student services and program operations.

Result

The Energy & Manufacturing Institute positions Lone Star College as a leader in workforce development, offering students access to cutting-edge tools and environments that mirror industry settings. The facility supports a wide range of technical programs and certifications, helping bridge the gap between education and employment in Texas’s growing energy and manufacturing sectors.
